About Sienna Flanders
I believe in supporting the natural processes of birth and taking advantage of the tools we have at home or in hospital as needed. After having my 3 children at home I was drawn to becoming a midwife to make sure that families continue to have access to safe nurturing pregnancy care options.
I have a Bachelors of Science degree from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. After college I taught high school, became an accountant and sales analyst/forecaster for Annie's Naturals and homeschooled my kids (not all at the same time). When my youngest was 5 years old I started my training to become a midwife.
I trained at the National Midwifery Institute, a MEAC certified midwifery program. Spent my clinical hours working with homebirth midwives in Vermont and at a Freestanding Birth Center in Utah. Over my 3.5 years of study I had the pleasure of working with 10 different midwives. Each with different expertise: homeopathy, herbs, hypnosis (calming for birth) alongside their awesome midwifery skills. I bring all I have learned in life and school to my work. My education continues as I work with other midwives and attend conferences and trainings regularly.
I am certified in Birth Emergency Skills Training (B.E.S.T.), NRP and CPR. I serve as the Secretary of the Vermont Midwives Association and maintain membership with MANA and NACPM.
Vermont is a great place for homebirth. My clients have access to collaborative care with other health professionals including Naturopaths, Acupuncturists, Herbalists, Nutritionists, OB/GYNs and Pediatricians.
Midwifery is licensed in the State of Vermont. I carry oxygen, anti haemorrhagics (medicines to stop bleeding after birth), antibiotics and IV equipment, lidocaine and suturing equipment. I run lab work from my office and access genetic screening and radiological (ultrasound) services at area hospitals.
I am proud to offer this unique care to families. My care model affords me the time (1 hour prenatals) to get to know my clients - their hopes, dreams and fears and to honor them all. Modern prenatal, birth and postpartum care is available to you with support to make the right choices for you and your family.
I feel privileged to share this journey with my clients, holding space for their experience, walking along-side them as their family grows.
I am in-network with Green Mountain Care (medicaid), BCBS, MVP and CIGNA.
I love to explain what I do. I offer one-hour free consultations by phone or in my office. Contact me to learn more!
